Kevin Saunders has been a head coach for 26 years. In 1994, after just two years of coaching, he was named the Lynchburg, Virginia Coach of the Year for his work at William Campbell. The following season, he was named AA Coach of the Year by the AP. In the 2000s, Saunders guided Virginia’s JJ Kelly and Kentucky’s Shelby Valley to the schools’ first playoff appearances. He was named the District Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2007. For his role as Gretna’s head coach in Virginia, Kevin was the District Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011. He was named 2011 State Coach of the Year after leading the Gretna Hawks to a State Title. Saunders led Georgia’s 7A Pebblebrook High School to their first playoff appearance in 10 years in 2016. In 2017, he led Pebblebrook to their first ever back-to-back playoff appearances and was named Region 2 7A Coach of the Year. They also made the playoffs in 2018. Despite coaching in many rebuilding programs, Kevin Saunders has compiled a career record of 186-101-2.
