David Bishop: Head Coach

North Hall High School, GA

David Bishop was born in Point Pleasant, NJ.  He played football at Toms River High School North for Pete Bush and Jerry Clarey.  After graduating, he went to Liberty University in 1985 and played football his freshman and sophomore years for Coach Morgan Hout.  During his time there, he had the opportunity to play alongside some tremendous NFL players.  Eric Green AFC Rookie of the Year in 1990.  Other NFL players included Richard Shelton, Pittsburgh, Wayne Haddix who led the NFL in interceptions in 1990 with 7 while playing for Tampa Bay, Kelvin Edwards who started at WR for New Orleans and Dallas and Mark Mathis who played for the Cardinals and then played in the Canadian Football League.  

 

Coach Bishop started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Altavista High School in Virginia in 1992.  During his four years there, he coached TEs, WRs, and OLBs as well as being the head jv coach.  In 1996 he left Atltavista and started the middle school program at Jefferson Forest High School working for Bob Christmas.  During his year at Jefferson Forest, Bishop also assisted the high school staff helping coach QBs and ILBs.  In 1997, he moved to Bainbridge, GA where he was the head ninth grade and jv coach.  In his fourth year in Bainbridge, he coached QBs on the varsity level.  In 2001, he moved to North Hall High School as the WR coach and head jv coach.  In 2004 he was promoted at Asst Offensive Coordinator and then became the OC full time in 2008.  In 2014, Coach Bishop became the head coach at North Hall High School.

 

As a coordinator and head coach, he was part of an offense that scored over 500 points on 3 different occassions. During his tenure at North Hall, he has gone to the playoffs 15 out of 20 years and prior to his arrival with Christmas, the school had never been to the playoffs in 45 years.  The Trojans went to the final four twice, quarterfinals on four occassions and were region champs four different times. 2018 North Hall won its first road playoff game in school history.  

 

As a head coach, Bishop's teams set school records for most points scored in a game (76), largest point differential in a win (76), first Hall County team to beat a 7A school, six consecutive years in the playoffs, scored 60 points or more five times in one season, tied the record for most shutouts in a season (3) on two occasions, and won the first ever road playoff game in the school 62 year history. In 2015 and 2018, he was named the Region Coach of the Year.

During his time as head coach his team has also hit several high marks on offense, most yards in a game 667 (2018 vs Fannin Co), most rushing yards by a single player 337 (Kyle Bacus).

Coach Bishop is married to his wife Dawn (32yrs) and they have two daughters, Taylor a nurse practitioner and Rachel an occupational therapist.
